But through return migration, the Pacific Northwest has influenced the Nordic countries as well. From the earliest European settlement, immigrants from the Nordic countries were attracted to this area. The greatest single impetus was, of course, the Yukon Gold Rush, but the immigrants also came to pursue livelihoods in fishing, farming, the lumber industry, and commerce.
