Located about 45 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, St. Olaf is the home of Rolvaag Memorial Library, with its college archives, the Norwegian-American Historical Association archives, the Kierkegaard Library, and the St. Olaf Special Collections.
Participants will have guided tours of all four, and will also have time for independent exploration of both the collections and the college.
The ARCHIVES at NAHA (Norwegian-American Historical Association)
The heart of the NAHA archives is its extensive manuscript collection, which includes letters, diaries, journals and ledgers, newspaper clippings, obituaries, congregational records, family and local histories, and other resources related to Norwegians in America. The archival collection also includes photographs illustrating all aspects of Norwegian-American history.
The Howard and Edna Hong Kierkegaard Library, A Center for Research and Publication
The Kierkegaard Library is a special collection that serves students, scholars and anyone interested in the writings and ideas of Søren Kierkegaard, the 19th-century Danish philosopher, and related thinkers.
The Rolvaag Library Special Collections Department
The College special collections department offers students and scholars access to printed materials from the 15th century to the present. Our primary collections include:
- Nordic-American imprints with an emphasis on Norwegian-American imprints
- A teaching collection on the history of the book
- The O.E. Rølvaag Book Collection
- The Bodman-Lang East Asian Collection
- Artists’ books and fine press books
The Shaw-Olson Center for College History

The College Archives is a repository of historical materials relating to the founding and growth of the institution: correspondence, minutes, reports, publications, photographs, audio tapes, video tapes, artifacts and related materials.
