The Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Study held its annual conference May 6-9, 2015 at the Ohio State University and Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel in Columbus, Ohio. This year’s conference theme was Indigenous Discourses, Methodologies, and Histories.
Conference sessions took place at the Ohio Union at the heart of the OSU campus, adjacent to the Wexner Center for the Arts and the beautifully renovated Thompson Library. Conference lodging as well as other key events took place at the Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel, an airy modern hotel at the edge of the Short North arts district and Columbus’s foodie scene. Events at the hotel included an opening plenary lecture by influential OSU scholar Chadwick Allen, a reception hosted by the American Scandinavian Foundation, a free Friday night concert featuring the acclaimed Finnish Sámi joik band Ulda, and a conference banquet featuring locally sourced foods and great dancing.
