The Norwegian Department at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN announces a full-time one-year position in Norwegian at the level of instructor or Assistant Professor for 2015-2016. Teaching responsibilities include Norwegian language courses at the first and second semester level, advanced Norwegian literature (taught in Norwegian), and a course in Norwegian life and society. The teaching load is six courses over the year. The Norwegian department encourages a collaborative approach with cooperation among those teaching different sections of the same level. It also sponsors an active program outside the classroom, and faculty members participate in extra-curricular activities such as the Norwegian Christmas service, 17. mai celebration, weekly conversation table (in rotation), and other departmental events.
The successful candidate will have experience and interest in teaching undergraduate language courses. Minimum requirement of a ABD in Scandinavian Studies (or Comparative Literature with emphasis in Scandinavian literature), with native or near-native competence in Norwegian.
